Vegetarian Asam Fish and Sour Pickled Mustard Vegetable Soup.

Whenever we planned to dine in a Chinese Vegetarian restaurant, my husband will most definitely order the Asam Fish. It is his favourite dish.

Since he loves it so much, I decided to do the dish myself at home. Why not?

Twice in a week, we observe vegetarian at home. Usually, I'll prepare Indian vegetarian item for lunch but this time I chose otherwise. Chinese style it is this week!

And sour pickled mustard vegetable soup was a perfect combination for Asam Fish.

Try it yourself and I'm very sure you'll love it!

Ingredients for Vegetarian Fish

Vegetarian Fish Asam Pedas Paste

1 tomato

1 onion

Ladies fingers (Okra)

Torch Ginger Bud

Mint Leaves

Preparation Method

  1. Shallow fry the vegetarian fish in hot oil and keep aside.

  2. Next, shallow fry the okra or ladies fingers in the same oil. Keep aside.

  3. Add little more oil and saute the onion until translucent.

  4. Add cut tomatoes and saute until slightly soft.Don't let the tomatoes turns mushy.

  5. Now, add 3-4 tbsp asam pedas paste and mix thoroughly. Add 1 cup of water and let it boil for a minute.

  6. Add the fried okra and let it cook further for another minute.

  7. Add finely chopped torch ginger bud and mint leaves for nice aroma.

  8. Salt not necessary as it already in the asam pedas paste.

  9. Pour the sauce over the fried fish.

Ingredients for Sour Pickled Mustard Soup

1 packet sour pickled mustard greens

1 cake smooth tofu

Enoki mushroom


Sliced Ginger

Chopped Garlic

3 Bird Eye Chilies

White Pepper

Soy Sauce

Spring Onions

Preparation Method

  1. Add ginger followed by garlic and bird eyes chilies. Stir for a few minutes.

  2. Add sliced carrots and fry for few minutes.

  3. Add water and let it simmer.

  4. Add enoki mushrooms, chopped sour mustard leaves and smooth tofu. Let it cook.

  5. Add white pepper, salt and soy sauce for seasoning.

  6. Garnish with fried onions and spring onions.
