Sardine Varuval

Sardine varuval its an unique recipe which i found from a cookbook launch by Oli DJ’s from Singapore. Its an awesome dish which best served with steam rice.  Since im a Sardine lover, anything you inspire from Sardine sure to taste excellent for me. With some additional ingredients here i present the recipe.

What you need :

  1. 1 big can of Sardine with sauce

  2. 1 tsp mustard seeds

  3. 1 tsp black split lentils (urad dal)

  4. 2 Onions chopped finely

  5. 5 garlic chopped finely

  6. small piece of Ginger chopped finely

  7. 4 dry chilies sliced thinly

  8. 1 sprig curry leaves

  9. 1 tbsp chili powder

  10. salt

  11. oil

  12. 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  13. 1 1/2 tbsp black peppercorns

Preparation Method :

  1. Firstly, dry roast cumin seeds and blackpepper corns in a pan and powdered them in a food processor. Keep aside.

  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and wait till splutter.

  3. Now you may add split lentils to turn brownish.

  4. Add chopped onions, ginger and garlic, dry chilies and curry leaves sequentially. Stir fry until cooked.

  5. Add 1 tbsp of chili powder and fry for a minute.

  6. Add Sardine with sauce along with salt.  Mash evenly and close the lid for 2 minutes.

  7. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.

  8. Finally add powdered spices powder and keep on stirring until well coated.

  9. Dish out and serve.
